The mosque, which was built by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan between 1994 and 2007, covers 12 hectares. It has a central courtyard that can accommodate up to 50,000 worshippers in a given day and a main prayer room that can has house 7,000 more.
