Description: Korengal Valley is among the deadliest pieces of terrain in the world for U.S forces. The six-mile long passage, in northeastern Afghanistan, is surrounded by treacherous mountain ridges, tightly controlled by the Taleban and al-Qaeda. On Oct 19, 2007, the American military launched Operation Rock Avalanche, a massive, multiple-unit mission to try to flush out insurgents. I was there to document the events.
